This iconic car company was founded in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1931 by Professor Ferdinand Porsche. For many years he was the technical director at Austro-Daimler, where he designed a touring car which won a triple victory in the Prince Henry trials.
Although it was initially a motor vehicle consultancy firm, it received a commission from the German government to design a ‘people’s car’. In 1934 the prototype was unveiled for the Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most successful cars ever made.

At the same time, work was in development for three racing coupes for long distance endurance competitions. In 1948, by which time Ferdinand’s son, Ferry, had joined the company, the Porsche 356 sports car was launched.
The famous Porsche 911 series was launched in the mid 1960’s and so too was the Porsche 906 Carrera and the Porsche 910, and Porsche started to win World Championship races, every year, a tradition which continues to this day.

NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR PERFORMANCE SPORTS CARS

The Porsche Principle is ‘maximum output from minimum input’, a sentiment that is entirely in keeping with the environmental concerns we all share. In the 21st Century, Porsche is keen to keep developing new technologies that can prove themselves on the race track. The popular Porsche Boxster was launched in 1999 and the latest model is the Boxster E, a ground-breaking new vehicle which operates without a combustion engine.
